Week Of Love: Be Mine Friday

I love Valentines. There are so many funny, pretty and cute ways to say I love you (or I like you, or I think you're great) this year. Here's a roundup of some of my favorites. I tried to include e-cards, paper and ideas for handmade cares.
How will you say Be Mine this year?

Someecards has some hilarious Valentines. You'll be sure to get a laugh with these.
It's no secret that I absolutely adore everything that Papaya Art makes. Check out their Valentines, they're $4 and absolute perfection!

You can't beat the classic kid Valentines. You know these would have been a hit in elementary school!               Tattoo Valentines from Target- $3

Week Of Love: Silly Love Songs Thursday

Need help making a V-day playlist? Look no further! 90 songs of love from 9 different genres are listed here!
We all have our favorite love songs. To try and make a playlist of love songs for every genre seemed impossible, so I enlisted some helpers. (I was going to type them all up and make it uniform, but I've had a tough week. This is my best effort for right now.)
I made the pop playlist, but there are so many great ones on here!  Enjoy these Silly Love Songs and go watch the episode of Glee by the same title--- it's pretty fantastic.  So here come the playlists--- there is literally something for pretty much everyone.
Love songs, ahoy!

Week Of Love: Poetry Tuesday

Poetry has gone out of favor in the modern world. Most people rarely read it and don't care for it. Maybe I'm biased as a lit major, but that's an absolute shame. Especially when it comes to love! Love Poems have been around forever and although people still write them, they are not as much a part of our culture as they should be. So if you're fortunate enough to have a Valentine this week, attach a poem to their gift. Even better, memorize it and share it with them.
Remember in elementary school when you had to memorize a poem? It was always difficult and frustrating at first, but when you really memorized the poem it was magical. Years later you can probably still recall bits and pieces of childhood poems.
So here's my challenge to you: find a love poem this week and memorize it. Poetry takes more time, and memorizing a poem simply affords you that time. You'll understand it better and you'll surely like it better. All throughout the week, carry a poem with you and learn it's nuances. Memorize it and it will be yours to keep forever--- or to someday give to someone you love.

I was going to post a lot of poems today, but I chose to only include one. This love poem was once sent to me by someone, and later quoted to me by the same person. Although things never worked out (and for good reasons) I am still touched by that gesture. I ended up having to write a paper and  memorize this exact poem in an ironic twist of fate last fall in my intro to poetry class. So here's the poem I carry around with me. You can memorize this or find your own. I'll try and post another poem every day for the rest of the week, too!

since feeling is first

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world
my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
- the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says
we are for each other; then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph
And death i think is no parenthesis

Week Of Love: Ways to Start Loving V-Day Monday

I've heard it all. You can blame your hatred of the holiday on commercialism or your nasty ex, or you can write another diatribe about celebrating love every day. Everyone seems to have tons of reasons to dislike Valentine's Day.
Why spend energy hating it? It's a silly holiday, for goodness sakes!  Here's my argument: Maybe it is a commercially supported, and maybe we should celebrate love more every day---but why can't we enjoy a day of pink and red and lace and love? Let Valentine's Day be a reminder that LOVE is everywhere!! Let it remind us to celebrate more often, and encourage us to keep seeking love.

I know it can be tough to love a holiday that seems to remind you that you're alone, but I have to remind everyone reading this that they're NOT really alone. You have plenty of people in your life who love you dearly and faithfully. So what if you don't have a formal valentine this year? There are plenty of Valentine's days to come for that! You can choose to wallow and be miserable, or face the day in the world's cutest colors (I love, love, love red and pink) and show everyone that you're better than that. You can choose to hate the holiday, but I promise that loving it is MUCH more fun.

The best way to love Valentine's Day is to reframe your views. Stop thinking about the love you don't have, and start recognizing the love you do have in your life. Romantic love is NOT the only kind of love! Beyond that, make this a holiday about loving yourself! Stop focusing on why you're not in a relationship and start remembering the thousands of ways that you're absolutely fantastic on your own!

If you're having trouble learning to love the world's most hated holiday, here are some suggestions of ways to make it your best Valentine's Day yet:
  • Buy a box of Valentine's like it's February in Kindergarten and send them to friends near and far. For an even more fun twist, send them anonymously.
  • Bake. Eat. Repeat. Share only if you want to ;)
  • Have a chick flick marathon with your mom. Live in separate towns? Watch a movie and text each other!
  • Dress up. Every year, I try and let this be one of my girliest outfits of the year. Make sure to wear a little lace and a lot of red, pink and cream. Feeling gorgeous goes a long way!
  • Read a romance novel. What better day for a guilty pleasure?
  • Grab dinner with the girls! Ban any negative conversation about love and just enjoy the time together!
  • Call your parents and your grandparents, and wish them a happy Valentine's day.
  • Know someone who REALLY hates the holiday? Make them a little V-day care package complete with lots of chocolate. You may not be able to convert them, but you'll make the day better.
  • You don't need a guy to buy you a teddy bear. Go to Build-a-Bear and make your own! It's more fun that way anyway.
  • Look through the jewelry catalogs with a friend and play Spot the Ugliest Valentine's Day Jewelry! (Trust me, the department and jewelry stores come out with the most awful things this time of year!!)
  • Write yourself a love letter. Seriously, when you take time to acknowledge your wonderful traits and accomplishments, you will feel fantastic.
  • Eat chocolate like there's no tomorrow. You have a great excuse :)
  • Make a list of things you love and spend all day seeking those people and things out.
  • Doodle hearts with no one in particular in mind. Or someone, if that's your preference.
  • Watch classic movies. The love stories are much sweeter.
  • Volunteer. It doesn't matter where, but spread some love. I recommend volunteering somewhere with animals because animals cheer everyone up.
  • Buy yourself something you've been wanting, but couldn't justify spending money on. Splurge a little!
  • Read poetry.
  • Spend all day listening to and singing  love songs, then watch Glee's "Silly Love Songs" episode!
  • Paint your nails in alternating red and pink. It's silly and fun, and reminiscent of elementary school!
  • Stay in pajamas all day.
  • Only drink hot chocolate all day.
  • Make a list of people you love and find a way to tell every single one of them that. It will make you feel amazing.
  • Send someone flowers. It's ok if you choose yourself as the recipient.
  • Buy a magazine and use the cards inside to subscribe. It's a gift that will last all year.
  • Wear red or pink lipstick all day.
  • Smile at happy couples instead of hating them.
  • Throw a party! Invite every single person you know and enforce a strict red and pink dress code!
  • Wear a lacy bra. You'll feel sexy, confident and lovely.
  • Use the words love, sweet, lovely, sexy, and cute as much as possible. Add more Valentines-y words to the list and use them all day.
  • Ask someone to be your Valentine and exchange gifts. This can be a girl friend, a best guy friend, a sibling, anyone. Avoid asking a love interest if you want to ensure that your hopes don't get up.
  • Hand make Valentine's and give them out. Give them to strangers, even!
  • Make it your personal mission to make sure EVERYONE enjoys the holiday. Spread love however you can.
I could go on for hours. Try one, try them ALL. If you try any, let me know how they go! What's your favorite way to spread love? How can you enjoy this holiday best? Send any and all of your ideas my way, I'd LOVE to hear them.

Why I'm doing a Week of Love.

I love Valentine's Day.
No, I'm not in a fabulous relationship and looking forward to a ridiculously romantic day.  Not even close. In fact, I've never had a real Valentine. This year, all of my friends are off at college and I'm home from college for the semester and sick. I haven't been in love for real, and my past relationships weren't exactly great. I have every reason to hate this holiday--- but I don't.
I've always loved this holiday. In elementary school it was a day of cute cards and candy for everyone, and I loved putting together Valentines. In middle school it was my first real dance, shopping with my best friends and dinners out feeling like adults. In high school it became an excuse to send and receive flowers and chocolates, a day to dress in my girliest clothes and watch romantic movies. I can't say for sure what it will be this year or in the years to come, but Valentine's Day is a holiday that has evolved and grown with me, and hopefully always will. I believe in love and believe we should celebrate it.
Valentine's Day is as great of a day as you make it. Hating it and being cynical and miserable doesn't make you cool or better than anyone--- it just makes you miserable. You can choose to enjoy the holiday or not. I just prefer a day of love and chocolate and happiness to a day of misery! Just because you don't have a Valentine this year doesn't mean you never will. Take advantage of the no-pressure V-Day and make it a holiday to remember.

So this week I'll be showering you with love and giving tons of ideas on ways to make this your BEST VALENTINE'S DAY EVER!
If you have anything in particular you'd love to see, let me know.

Week Of Love: Love Quotes Sunday

I'm kicking off my week of love today! I won't spoil all my surprises in store for this week, but know that I have a post planned for each day! I'm excited for Valentine's Day and hoping that you are too. Today's post is full of quotes about love. Enjoy!  Feel free to pass them on and spread the love :)

7 Facts Award

This couldn't be more perfect! I've been meaning to tell you more about myself :)
Thanks to Patti at The Young and the Prepless for this award!
Rule of the award: Once awarded you must write 7 facts about yourself and then award it to fellow blogger; make sure to let them know! Also, link back to the one who awarded you!
Ready? Go.

  1. I was born in Michigan, but I consider my self a Charlotte girl.
  2. I love spelling. That sounds silly for anyone after 5th grade, but I think that the ways words are spelled is interesting. I have subtitles in my mind most of the time because I am so conscious of spelling.
  3. I don't like shoe shopping. I love to shop for anything, but shoe shopping is my least favorite. I have big, clumsy feet and I'm very picky about comfort with shoes.
  4.  More than anywhere else, I want to live in Rome someday.
  5. Valentine's Day is my favorite minor holiday. I've never had a valentine, but I've always loved the holiday.
  6. I love food. My mom's a chef and I grew up eating really varied cuisines.
  7. I don't like the way cursive capital H's look. It's just not the prettiest letter, in my opinion. Lower case h's are much nicer.
I'm Passing this award along to:
Danielle at Home Sweet Home Cupcakes
(Danielle is the reason I got this blog. She's the BEST!)
If your new to my blog, "here ya go!" please link back to me, I'm also passing this award on to you... comment below if your going to do a "7 facts post", I would love to read it!

    Pretend Care Package

I have tried to get back to blogging so many times this week! Since my brain isn't functioning too well on all the meds, I'm going to focus on pictures. What I'm doing tonight is putting together a pretend care package for myself.  It's like window shopping for the sick :) So these are the things that I'm wishing I could buy to cheer myself up while I'm sick in bed. What's nice about online window shopping is that it cheers me up anyway!  None of these are meant to go together--- they're just things I'm loving tonight.

In The Heights OBC Recording- $16.
I'm seeing In The Heights in a few weeks, and I'll definitely want to buy this to listen to after I see the show!

    J. Crew Siren Dress- $98.
I love this dress. The color is gorgeous and would be perfect for my trip to New Orleans and the cruise!

Papaya Love Floral Luxe Tote- $59.
Papaya is the best, and is a care package staple since my aunt always sends me their gorgeous journals and cards.
Lilly Pulitzer Murfee Scarf in Booty Caw- $118.
    Just something to lust over.
    Roman Holiday Collector's Edition- $9.98
I've been needing a dose of Audrey and Rome.
So those are just some silly things I'd pack in the world's nicest care package to myself tonight. Too bad it's just pretend :)
